I'm trying to open one of my Wordpress sites and I get a pop-up which says:

You have chosen to open an application:

which is a: application/x-httpd-php5

When I log into my WP dashboard, a bunch of the text there is scrambled as well.

Check your .htaccess file for the AddType application/x-httpd-php5
line and remove that.

Still getting the error after deleting from .htaccess, will it take a few minutes to take effect?

Check all the .htaccess files, also hit ctrl+F5 a few times as well, to clear your cache.
