Default How does one describe Dotable?

Like many of the clients here I had some horror story experiences with other webhost suppliers. Those experiences allowed me to draw up a list of criteria that a webhost would need to meet for me to feel "confident" to move to them. I posted that list on a couple of sites that offered the opportunity to seek "bids" from webhosts and was told I was totally unrealistic. My criteria were pretty simple - daily backups that are reliable and on a seperate server and someone who is honest and no BS.

In my travels and in exasperation at the offers I got from people who claimed phone support but didn't answer the phone, had websites with no functional support link etc - I came across Dotable, more by accident than good planning.

I chose to go with Dotable and explained my reasons on the forum I'd previously posted my request on - mostly because I thought it might be good feedback.

Quote:
Why did I choose Dotable? Was it price - no it was nearly twice the price I am currently paying and more than I'd budgetted for - though I think it is good value. I was impressed with how simple and efficient their system was - their site was simple and worked - not particularly glitzy but who cares about glitzy in a webhost? I liked that they explained Aussie Bob, why he set up the company and why he made the decisions he did - it made sense and it was human - I felt I knew what I was dealing with. I looked at what people had said about the business and him and there was rarely a criticism - plus he'd handled himself professionally but with good humour in any forums etc. Then I looked at Dotable's forums and that clinched it for me - when I read there had been the odd little glitch and problem (as you expect and always get) but their responses were prompt, they admitted mistakes and fixed them. There was no BS, no covering up and no hiding. Every host has problems sometimes and I have to admit I'm suss if I don't see any because it often means they're censored or covered up. The issue is not whether there are problems but how they are dealt with - from my perspective anyway.

I read the FAQ at Dotable and it said that it takes 6hrs to set up the account - oh well I thought, a bit longer than I wanted but I can live with that and at least I know. Then lo' and behold its set up in 15 mins - and a delighted new customer results. I thought it would be 6hrs it was 15 mins they exceeded expectations rather than over-promising and under-delivering. Its a nice start and I hope it continues.
That was a few months back now but the pattern has continued. I have to confess to being totally stunned and amazed at the times of the day and night I get responses to support requests. I don't expect things to happen that quickly but am delighted when they do.

But I guess one thing impressed me more than anything else in my experience - it was when I requested something and I was told no.

Now that might sound weird that I would be impressed by that but it proved something to me about this company. Yes at one level I was peeved because it did inconvenience me significantly BUT I then thought back on my original criteria for a webhost - I wanted someone that was honest, no BS and who put reliability above all else.

Saying no to me provided incontravertable proof that Dotable put the interests of the collective of clients above the interests of one - and thats positive in my opinion. It also proved beyond any doubt that they would not compromise the stability of their servers even if it meant potentially loosing a client. That said a lot to me about their standards and ethics.

The service is superlative and the good humour genuine but in my opinion what sets Dotable apart is the unwavering committment to reliability and looking after the interests of all clients sharing these servers.
