Default [Completed] Neptune move to new cabinet

Just a heads up that Neptune server will be relocated to another cabinet in the 530W datacenter as part of our colocation consolidation and improvement of services.

This move will take place on the Thursday the 19th of June, 10.00am PDT (5.00pm TUC), 2008.

Countdown to start of migration

The server will be powered down, removed from the cabinet, added to the new Dotable cabinet and powered back up.

For those clients with custom nameservers, this will mean new IPs for your nameservers. There's no way around this unfortunately, and we will email you with your new nameserver IPs as the server is moved to the new Dotable cabinet. You will then need to change your nameserver IPs at your domain register for your main WHM domain. Shortly after that, your domains will then resolve from the new location. Downtime will be minimal but there will be some downtime. This cannot be avoided.

For those clients that do not use custom nameservers, you don't need to do anything, as we will update the server's default nameserver IPs.

For those of you that use 3rd party DNS services, you will need to update the A records accordingly with your newly assigned IP addresses. If you can, you would be advised to lower your TTL (Time To Live) times on your dns zones, as low as possible, as soon as you are able, in preparation for an IP address change next week.

If you have any questions about the server move, post them below or drop a ticket into the Dotable helpdesk.

Hi Aussie Bob,

Just wondering - what type of downtime might be expected.
Looking at that handy time link above, the time will be 3am on Friday morning (excellent time day of day )
Just wondering if its like a 30 minute downtime or longer.
(/me likes to plan ahead)

Brad

Allow around 2 hours of downtime. This allows for the server to be removed from the cabinet, picked up and added to our new cabinet. The guys are also doing a physical hardware check too, so that will take around 10 minutes.

Will the data on the server be backed up on to another server before the move?

No. When we have all the Dotable servers into the new cabinet, the offserver backup system will be implemented. It's part of our colocation consolidation program we're currently working on.

Default Accessibility through IP problems

Hi.
I have been experiencing problems while trying to access my site and email accounts through my dedicated IP. However is accessible through the domain name. Does it have something to do with the oncoming migration?

Theo,

There was an IP cleanup on Neptune before the migration, so just access your site and email with the domain, and not the IP.

Great question about the IP's.

Also thanks for changing the A record TTL's to 300
Appreciate that
