The issues have been fixed. Server is rebooting now . . .

Yes, Howard, it's not a good situation. Downtime never is. First the colo techs couldn't locate the key for our cabinet, and then there was issues with the KVM, and then a corrupted CentOS Live CD. We're all in the same boat, so we keep communication fluid, and work like mad to fix the issue.

Ugh... I initially wondered whether being on the one server that was different from the others was such a good thing. When its up it flies, but there is some safety in conformity ! Hard to judge until we find out the root cause...

At what point do you start thinking about shifting the drives to another server? (Dang how i hate growing pains!)

Hang on ... as i write this the status page is showing http and ftp online again... there is hope

Yes, we're back! Is there no greater feeling?

Issues have been (finally!) fixed, and services are coming back online now. We'll be running full diagnostics as to why this happened.

Btw, what's the deal with uptime stats for Earth, Mars and Jupiter? They show "Device data currently unavailable" for all three, vs nice month by month summaries for the other servers. Thx!

Yeah, I saw that the other day. I'll have to contact Alertra and ask them why they're not displaying those stats. I've probably used a wrong url string there or something.

Hard for us all, yes. Doesn't matter how many issues like this I've been through (and there were some big downtime issues of 6 hours+ on servers back when I owned httpme) I'll never get used to downtime. It's so frustrating and twists your stomach in knots.

But we keep on truckin' as it's what we do.

I appreciate the constant communication and (seemingly) complete honesty (just like another provider I like, www.fastmail.fm).

I'd much rather hear that this longer than usual downtime came from multiple causes, most of which can be fixed so they'll never contribute again, than get some manufactured excuse about 'routing problems in the colo' and 3 hours of ignored emails. (Not that I enjoy the server being down mind you...)

Thanks for the constant updates Bob.

The DC needs a kick in the pants for the rack access issue though.
