Is this addressing that kernel exploit I saw news about elsewhere? And how long should we expect the server to be out of commission?

It is for a kernel upgrade - the server is up but will need another reboot as I hard rebooted it back to the old kernel, as it seemed to take a while to come back up - reality is the file system was fscking.

Oh no, not again Any chance the follow-up reboot (fsck) can wait until after 5PM North America time? Then I'll have the whole weekend to worry about Jupiter

I am disappointed we are given no notice of this coming so we can tell our customers what to expect (I'm referring to the original reboot not the follow-up one you are going to do). This is a particular bad time when my customers are getting their emails as part of starting the business day.

I'm with you Dave.

If the server goes down because of a problem it's bad enough, but for maintenance or an upgrade I'd like to know in advance when and why the server goes down..

If it is doing an fsck, I doubt he knows. I just remember the bad old days with Jupiter started with an fsck
