Colo techs are hard rebooting and are hooking up the console to watch the reboot and see where the problem is . . . .

We rebooted to fix an issue with BIND, so there's nothing serious going on here. Just having some issues getting the server back from reboot, and it's most likely doing a fsck, as it's been a fair while since the last reboot.

Ya know, some experts recommend you reboot your Windows machine once a week to clear out memory leaks and other problems that build up over time. I am a big Linux fan and feel you shouldn't have to do that to a server. But this is starting to look a lot like past outages when I hear the machine isn't coming back from a reboot and we then find major corruption of the disk volume... Again, I hope I am wrong but I have seen this too many times.

At least this time I have full and recent backups

You're right Gerrit. I need to stay positive.

Today I am recovering from spending 29 hours this past weekend on-site setting up a network. I thought I was all done last night and I had to go and do another test. When I did, nothing was working! So I spent the next half hour to find out one of the cables (supplied by a vendor) spontaneously died just sitting there between the router and the switch. Of course, all the cables I made up are worked fine There... I said something positive

I am sending all my good thoughts to the west (the direction Jupiter is from me)

Update -

There is some confusion as to which server Jupiter is, in our cabinet there, after we replaced the server with the new server. This is good news in a way, but now the colo tech is trying to find which server is Jupiter. All the servers in the cabinet are meant to be clearly labelled. So we're working on this . . .
