Just a heads up that Earth server will be relocated to another cabinet in the 530W datacenter as part of our colocation consolidation and improvement of services.
This move will take place on the Monday 16th, 10.00am PDT, 2008. TimeandDate.com countdown The server will be powered down, removed from the cabinet, added to the new Dotable cabinet and powered back up. For those clients with custom nameservers, this will mean new IPs for your nameservers. There's no way around this unfortunately, and we will email you with your new nameserver IPs as the server is moved to the new Dotable cabinet. You will then need to change your nameserver IPs at your domain register for your main WHM domain. Shortly after that, your domains will then resolve from the new location. Downtime will be minimal but there will be some downtime. This cannot be avoided. For those clients that do not use custom nameservers, you don't need to do anything, as we will update the server's default nameserver IPs. For those of you that use 3rd party DNS services, you will need to update the A records accordingly with your newly assigned IP addresses. If you can, you would be advised to lower your TTL (Time To Live) times on your dns zones, as low as possible, as soon as you are able, in preparation for an IP address change next week. If you have any questions about the server move, post them below or drop a ticket into the Dotable helpdesk. |

So I think I use a custom name servers.
I'm also on holiday next week. Does this mean that my sites are going to be down until I get back and sort out the IP address issue? Do you know what the new IP is? When are you thinking of telling us? Is 2 working days enough notice for this sort of large change which will involve not only a short outage, but definite work for many of us to do at a particular time? retrocool |

Drop a ticket into the helpdesk for that, so we can confirm if you use custom nameservers or not. If you give us access to your domain panel, we can make the IP nameserver changes for you.

Personal opinion, but two (really four if you include the weekend) days for this kind of announcement is more than generous. I've been on too many hosts where it would have been "move first, then announce".
Thanks for the information, Bob. EDIT: I should clarify. I feel like two+ days is more than enough solely because of the bad experience other hosts have given me. As Bob said below me, more is always better. |

Would have liked to have given more notice, but we're working with coordinating our guy at the new colo and the guy at the existing colo - and getting those to coordinate would be easier organising a middle east peace summit.

Bob, I created a ticket immediately, as you suggested, and 7 hours later it remains unanswered. I'm a bit puzzled because this is not the usual level of service! You replied to my message here within a couple of minutes. Perhaps something has gone wrong with the system. The ticket is RYO-748932.
