Default E-Mail isn't working.

Two days ago, I noticed that the e-mail accounts on one of my domains wasn't working. They kept bouncing back. I made a ticket and it was fixed. I asked what the problem was a few times but never got an answer. I was just hoping it was something I could fix myself in the future.

Anyway, yesterday I found out that the forwarder on another domain wasn't working - one that had existed for about a year. Got the same bounce back error.

For the longest time I thought you could create a forwarder for a specific address (rather than a catch-all) without actually having to make that account. But I was told that wasn't the case, so I created the account. But that still didn't fix the problem. I created another ticket for this problem, but haven't gotten an update in about four hours, so I thought I would try the forum. I had to remove mx.mailfiltering.com from the MX record for it to work because I can't make my client wait any longer. However, I would like the problem fixed so that I can use filtering.

In the mean time, I tried e-mailing two of my clients on two different domains that I host. Those are bouncing back, too. These are actual addresses, not simply forwarders - but one does have a forwarder on it. I tried changing the MX entry on this domain from mx.mailfiltering.com to their domain names - which had worked on the situation above. But here, that didn't work.

So, it seems that the e-mail is only working on my main domain and the domain that was fixed last night. Also, the e-mail is working on the domain on which I changed the MX entry which I described in the third paragraph (but again, not on the ones in the fourth paragraph).

I'd really appreciate some help with this. The ticket is #14812.

Hello Kurt,

As stated in my original ticket response im working on this issue, however because of your request not to send an email to the forwarding party this is making it more time consuming as i have to kill the message ID before it leaves the server. As i sad earlier i will get this resolved for you and i believe im very close, jsut need a few more tests to confirm this.

Hi Kurt,

Sorry to hear of your problems - from my personal experience, I would give up on Mailfiltering.com; it works well to reduce spam but we're offered no control of the service. Also, if you happen to change any DNS records via WHM, it breaks the mailfiltering. I went through all accounts reducing the TTL to ease a transfer away from Dotable - all my accounts email then simply stopped working. It wasn't til I removed reference to mailfiltering.com and went back to the server handling mail that it worked again... And support didn't seem to have a clue what was happening.

A good idea very badly implemented!

Waldo,

The reason the emailed didn't work after you moved your sites is because the mail filtering service sends mail only to dotable servers.

I'm not intending this thread to go wildly off topic, but I do feel I should correct your post Jaku... None of my sites have been transferred away from Dotable as yet (I'm out of the country and am trying to relax!) Therefore, they are all still firmly on a Dotable server (and yes, it is a worrying concept).

Most of the DNS zones were edited to smooth the progress away from Dotable (to reduce the TTL); completing this process broke the mailfiltering service. There is absolutely no way to explain how every account with edited DNS suddenly failed to work with mailfiltering (the mail was being rejected out right). It's ridiculous to think that such a change would break the mailfiltering, but all the more concerning that Dotable staff did not have a clue what was happening (do they even have control over the mail filtering service?!)

A simple change to the MX record fixed that so the Dotable server is handling mail just fine.

The most disturbing fact is your own support failed to notice this issue and I was left hanging for 10+ days...

Good luck Kurt!

Waldo,

Then in that case when you edited the DNS, did you keep the box all the way at the bottom of the DNS entries checked? That is required to be checked when mail is coming from another server before it gets to the main server. That would be why when editing your DNS it broke everything, either that box was un-checked or editing your DNS removed the domain from accepting mail from the server.

We have full access to the filtering service and can add\remove domains. The problem that you had was not with the service but with the way cPanel handles mail by default.

And for the record, the issue Kurt had is resolved.

Very glad Kurt's issue was resolved

And I'm glad there is a greater understanding of the mail set-up now within Dotable, it seemed to be lacking previously....
