I just received another notification. This one from Dave's reply, but before that there were about 10 others with no notification.

Something's definately not Kosher with the forum subscriptions.

Yeah, I discovered that some of my forum subscriptions were set to daily emails instead of instant emails. I just went through and set them all again to instant. As for the thread subscriptions, I agree with Josh, there is something inconsistent happening here.

I don't use the buddy or ignore features either. I know what the ignore list does but I never bothered to figure out what purpose the buddy list has.
