Hi forrestrain,
I am not dotable's staff ( and am not a VPS expert so don't shoot me if I have said something wrong  ) but through experience prices from host to host will vary according to:1. Quality of Connections 2. Quality of Server 3. Quality of Support 4. Number of servers per account 5. Managed or Un-Managed 6. Choice of control panels 7. Other "freebies" etc.

The products that we sell and what others are selling are completely different products.
If you are happy with virtuozzo and cpanel, then you would probably be able to get a vps elsewhere cheaper, but probably not managed and monitored with as much flexibility as our VPS products offer.

Prior to releasing the Dotable VPS accounts, I did a LOT of research on what various companies were charging for VPS. Like regular hosting, there's huge variations, from the super cheap hosts promising the earth (mostly kids with a dedicated server) up to the expensive hosts not offerring that much. We're positioning our VPS accounts in the middle, and aiming for quality over quantity. The less VPS accounts per server, the better.
The VPS accounts are a great stepping stone to a dedicated server, for a reseller, or great for a web developer wanting a lot more control over their server, but they don't want a full server.
