I'm a current client at HTTPme (Plan 1, 2000MB, US$35/mo. etc.) and have been very happy with their service for about 3 years now... However, I just discovered Dotable and I'm intrigued!
I was going to upgrade my current plan at HTTPme in the near future, but I would consider moving to Dotable since I could get almost double the space and bandwidth for my money. (I'm looking at the "3Dot" 4,000MB plan.) I've read over the plans here and I'm trying to figure out if there is anything HTTPme offers that Dotable does not. The plans look awfully similar, but the prices are quite a bit less at Dotable (as I'd be paying in US$.) I'm well aware of AussieBob's reputation so I know I'd be in good hands (support-wise) if I made the switch. I'm just wondering if I'd be giving up any features I have at HTTPme that are not offered/available at Dotable. Aside from price, are there any differences I'm missing? (For example, I read in an earlier thread that Dotable did not offer custom nameservers, but it seems that has changed.) Thanks! |

Hi Jim
![]() You're in great hands with Steven and crew over at HTTPme, and they do have a special now that they'll double your bandwidth. Might want to check that out before thinking about moving over. Steven and myself are great mates, and talk daily, although we're both competing in the same market. He's a good guy. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I don't want your business. Just thought I should point that out first. ![]() (For anyone else reading this thread, I used to own HTTPme.com, but sold it in 2004, to build the family home) Dotable's pricing is somewhat different to HTTPme's, as the HTTPme pricing I setup in 2002, so things have changed since back then. The Dotable model is much more efficient than the HTTPme model back in 2002, so the pricing reflects this change. Also the market is much more competitive now, so that pushes down pricing, but servers, colo and bandwidth is also less than back then, so I think it's all pretty much relative. One major efficiency now is that all Dotable servers are owned, and not leased. This is a major cost saving, considering the specs of the servers, and what it would cost to lease comparative servers. I was looking around seeing what some dedicated server companies are charging to rent the same servers we have here, and it's around the US$700/mth mark. ![]() The current Dotable model would not be workable if we had to rent servers, as compared to owning the servers and colocating them etc. Dotable offers personalised nameservers, yes. Your own nameservers and IPs. The usual deal there. Dotable offers live chat support and SSH access, and very soon (shhhh) client exec licences (in the next mth!) for all new and existing resellers, if they need one. Sing out if you need anything else. ![]() |

OK, so aside from the price, (which is sweet!) I won't notice anything different over here at Dotable? Just wanted to make sure. I love what you created at HTTPme. I would expect nothing less over here!
I've been totally happy at HTTPme. Steven seems totally cool. I'm not thinking about leaving because of any trouble or anything. Like I said above, I'm just intrigued and inquiring! If I do anything, I maaay just open a new account over here and keep my HTTPme account as is. That way I can just start putting new sites over here and ease into things without making a big leap. Slow and steady, right? You may be getting an order from me in the near future! Thanks for the quick reply. |

![]() Then it's left for Mercury and Venus to be "anonymized" to make resellers like me happy. (*hint*, it's been weeks) |

Is this going to be on a per month lease basis, or is it going to be a owned license we can purchase at a discounted rate? |
