Default servers in Australia

Why dont you build servers in Australia? It's easier to control them, is that correct? And it's really faster for your Aussie customers. I think there are severals DCs in Australia, or even you can colo your servers within a Telecom company's DC (even it can be smaller)

Rackspace and bandwidth is much more expensive in Australia, as compared to LA, where the Dotable cabinet is now. Also servers in Australia only benefit folks inside Australia, and not traffic from outside of Australia. If the servers were colocated in Aussie, the pricing of the plans would be greatly increased, to cover increased rackspace and bandwidth costs incurred.

LA is the perfect middle ground, with great speeds for everyone. Dotable is a mix of Aussie and international clients, so we have to appeal to the broadest possible market, and servers in Australia limits our market. Aussie clients also get great speeds from the LA cabinet.

So that's some of my reasoning with the majority of servers being in LA, although I'm not ruling out some servers in Aussie if Aussie clients specifically want an Aussie server. I can see that happening in the next 6mths.

I see your current price is cheaper than HTTPMe So, I think a bit higher price is not an issue, if customers believe you Your servers are colocated in the same building with HTTPMe. I am not sure, but I think the same cabinet with HTTPMe? So, why your price can be cheaper, meanwhile you are offering more bandwidth? I know you are a great person, just wonder

HTTPme servers are in different cabinets, but in the same cage in LA.

The Dotable model is different than HTTPme's model (when I owned httpme), and HTTPme's pricing was set in 2002, and a lot's changed with the hosting landscape, since 2002.

Dotable has a locking cabinet, rather than an open rack. The cabinet sits inside a cage, and the cage we're in is about 4mx4m in dimensions.

Yes, a full rack/cabinet can hold 42U of space. That's about 17 2U servers and switch etc. We've only used 2 servers so far, and have lots of rackspace inventory to fill with this Cabinet.

In this pic, the Dotable lockable cabinet is the one to the left -

oh, it's 42U, and you just use 4U for 2 servers, and 1U for switch. So, you still have 37U Do you think to provide dedicated server, or colo?

Dedicateds and colo down the track a tad. Maybe a year at minimum. I like to slowly roll out the model, and get the business on a solid footing, before getting into the higher end products like dedicated servers and colocation. That's not Dotable's market for the time being.

ethan,

Please allow me a comment to your thread.

HTTPme.com without Aussie Bob is not the legend HTTPme.com. I think 'Aussie Bob' himself is the best brand in the reseller hosting world. So I can say 'Cheaper' isn't 'Less services'. I was one of HTTPme.com customers...

No, I dont say Dotable service is worse than HTTPMe As said, I know he's a great person, just wonder why, cause Dotable and HTTPMe is using the same facilities. Will dotable increase price next year or so?
