Default Contemplating Dotable

Hi Bob and Dotables!

I’m trying to figure out what the best thing to do with my sites is and came across Dotable in the process. I currently have a DirectAdmin reseller account for my personal sites. I initially went that route because that was the most viable option at the time to host multiple domains. I have been doing a lot of planning for some other projects, but recently decided to shift gears and only focus on my personal and nature photography sites.

My current host has been just fine, but with only desiring to focus on these two sites, I’m thinking I don’t need the fancy reseller account and don’t want to spend money for a business plan (they specialize in reseller only hosting) to host two small personal sites.

My needs are very simple, nothing fancy (e.g. private nameservers, e-commerce, etc). Something around 1GB space and 10GB bandwidth should last me a good while, but these have been hard to find as most hosts offer a monolith of space and are only geared toward resellers.

It was nice to see you offer a solution for personal hosting in your multiple domain accounts for about what I’m looking for space and price wise (between $10-$15/month).

So, my questions for you are….

1) Could I start out paying monthly, then switch to semi-annually? I want to try out Cpanel for a month or two as I haven't used it in a few years (hopefully it doesn't break as much as it use to or need updgrades as often). So I'd like to pay monthly to test things out and then switch to at least 6month intervals mainly due to the fact that the exchange rate to USD will fluctuate periodically. I'd like to lock in a price for as long as I can.

2) How is the multiple domain account set up? i.e., Does the main domain get assigned its own package or does it just use what isn’t assigned to other sites?

3) It seems as if all the domains for the account share one IP address? And this is a separate address from other accounts on the server (i.e. each multiple domain account gets their own IP)?

4) I’m assuming it would work this way…. I sign up with mydomain.com and that domain is my main account name and what I use to access cpanel and WHM? And this site uses Dotable nameservers?

5) From browsing your site the last few weeks I came across several threads talking about wish lists or things folks would like to see and noticed you have a breadth of products to offer. I’m wondering, do you have any plans to add a DirectAdmin server?

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions. I have to agree with Media_Dave, this seems like a very down-to-earth place.

Eric

Yes, you can start mthly and then switch to another payment cycle.

With the Multiple domain accounts, we setup the account with your main WHM domain, then you setup your other accounts from the WHM as you require. Each domain has its own cpanel and own unique features. Your domains combined are what goes towards your total WHM account disk and data usage.

No, only your main WHM domain gets a dedicated IP address. The domains that you setup in your WHM, will share another IP. Dedicated IPs are then only assigned for things like SSL Certificates.

Yes, this is correct, although you can access your WHM with your dedicated IP. That information is in your Dotable welcome email. The Dotable Multiple Domain accounts do not come with personalised nameservers, so you would use the server's nameservers of ns13.dotcolo.com and ns14.dotcolo.com.

There's no plans now, but it's not something we'd rule out for the future.
