After building a new house and buying a boat this fall, my family is laying low for Christmas We are staying home and just enjoying the time with immediate family. We'll play in the snow, go to church, see Santa, etc. Just hoping to get past this season with minimal financial impact Although my son has his eye on a robotic dinosaur that is selling big (and expensive) this year. My wife is eying the Wii game console and I haven't figured out what my daughter is pining after yet

Dave,
I live in Japan, it sometimes feels like Mars I can tell you.
Seen one Christmas here and that was enough, honestly Christmas Eve and they take all the decorations down, and Christmas day most people work... its just another day

Those Nintendo Wii`s (pronounced wee in Japan!!!! he he) are great but the games are utter pants graphic wise.
Just got myself a PS3, considering selling it on ebay, theyre going for crazy money. (If anyone wants one or a Nintendo Wii PM me).

Not seen the Robotic Dinosaurs, Im hoping Santa brings me a Sony R1 (Digital Camer).

Steve,

That's a great picture. Yeah, actually I'm not sure if my son wants the dinosaur as much as I do I told my wife that, even tho we are short on cash at the moment, I think Santa has enough money to make our son (and me) happy.

BTW, you really should update your avatar image.

We were looking at the Wii just because of the type of games available. Our kids are 5 and 7 years old and XBox has very few games for their age and the PS3 seems too expensive. I have read how many people were lined up at the stores here for days waiting for the PS3 to go on sale. And many of them are doing the same as you -- flipping them on eBay for a profit.

What kind of deal can you do for a Wii? Is it cheaper in Japan than here in the states?

Christmas is BIG here in Puerto Rico. I'm pretty sure we have the offically longest Christmas season in the world!
It starts with the first Advent Sunday and ends with an official afterparty for Three Kings Day - in the weekend after 8 days after Three Kings Day.

There are parties everywhere. Companies have X-Mas parties for employees and business relations, families at home of course, parties in restaurants, bars and on the beach.
From the beginning of December we can theoretically go to at least 4 parties per week. Of course we'll have a couple in our house as well.

The big family parties are on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The kids get their presents on Christmas Day and many families have the traditional pig roast then.
The men in the family are taking care of the roasting - sitting at the fire and turning the pig all the time (and drinking beer of course ).

Don't try to get anything done from any government agency during that time. They're slow anyway but during Christmas season more than half of the people is not there - hey, it's Christmas season!

The normal greetings like Good morning are not used, the standard greeting in the season is: ¡Felizidades! (congratulations).

To practice partying (as if we need it ) there's Thanksgiving (next Thursday).

Life ain't too bad here!

Just one small point here Dave, im not doing what you think im just considering it.
Will find out how much those wii things are here today, have a look at the tennis game for the PS3 if you can, this is definately suitable for your kids age range. The wii when I played with it is actually not as easy to use as it looks.

Steve, great photo sir, you look much younger than you do in your avatar!
