Hi Rob

I was just wondering how your new house was coming along?

We've moved into the lower level last Wednesday.

It was a bit of a rush, but we scraped in, and even roughed it for 2 nights with no working toilet. The tiler was late in doing the bathroom/toilet floor.

There's still heaps to do, but we're in, so we can finish things at our own pace. The main thing is that I have the big Plasma screen, and PayTV hooked up. I understand survival with 5 kids.

Downstairs is 220m2, and we'll focus on finishing that, before heading upstairs (which is 340m2) - although the plasterer is doing the finish upstairs as I type this. So it's like 2 houses in one, with the downstairs level having its own small kitchen etc. We'll be comfortable downstairs, until upstairs is completed.

We have no floor coverings downstairs yet. Just a bare concrete floor, but that suits with the kids and me tracking dirt in the house, with there being no grass. We'll have a floating clip lock floor downstairs soon enough. Just catching our breath for the time being. I have to wait 2 more months for the renderer to do the outside of the house, but that's ok. We're patient people.

Progress pics are at AussieBobHouse.com. I'll update that site with some more recent pics shortly, but the outside is pretty much what it is now.

That's one very big house!

I hope you're going to employ a cleaner so Wendy doesn't have to do it all :p

It's looking good! Congratulations on getting it - it must be a great feeling even though it's not finished

When my brother's wife came to visit during construction, she said to me I hope you have a cleaner. Well, she used some other more descriptive words, but to that effect.

The kids will look after the downstairs section, and we'll keep the upstairs ok. Their zone is downstairs, and we have a huge family room upstairs, and that is a shared zone. Then I have my home theatre at the front - that is parent's zone. We designed the house around kids and parents having shared and separate zones. With 5 (6th half done) kids, you need to have some separation.

They have their own kitchen downstairs, so as they get older, they can be more self sustainable. They can have their mates over - shoot some pool, play their playstation, or use their computers in their computer room. It's a great area for the kids. We'll just lower food supplies down the laundry chute, and they can fend for themselves.

I hope to have it fully completed by the end of the year. Then I have to be strong and resist the persistant real estate agents, who keep visiting, claiming "we have buyers interested in homes in this area". Oh well, as my dad used to say, "everything's for sale, for the right price". I told the last agent my price, but he hasn't called back yet.

We should be pretty much finished end of March. Just doing the finishing off upstairs (painting and floor coverings etc) and I have the outside to finish rendering and paint. Bah, what a huge job, and it seems never ending sometimes, but it is a huge house, being 60squares (545m2), for the Tribe.
