Default World's most expensive laptop?

I was totally stunned today (or, to use a delightful English expression, I was gob-smacked!)

I went into London shopping for the day. One store on my list was Selfridges. Downstairs in the luxury products area was a laptop that just made my jaw drop, not so much because of it's specs or even looks, but because of the price.

There's no specifications for the internal hardware on display - that's obviously not the sort of thing you'd care about if you were buying this baby.

Instead, just the outer case specifications which were a 4.98 carats of diamonds, white gold and chrome case with with crocodile skin.

The price.... £33,300!

Yes, thirty-three thousand three hundred pounds stirling!!!

(or to put it another way for our American friends, US$69,320)

Can you guess the expletive that left my mouth when I saw that?

I am all for capitalism and enjoying the money I make but there are times I think extravagance like this is borderline evil. That same money could buy over 300 new laptops for kids in developing countries (see laptop.org). No one needs to spend $70K for a laptop computer. This product is for the Paris Hilton's of the world.

After paying that much for the laptop, the price to install Vista on it would look reasonable.

Maybe they'll have a special Vista Diamond version, for the discerning buyer who just wants to spend more.

Isn't that just Vista in general

I say good luck to them if they can sell them - and according to the department manager who was serving me with my rather modest £180 purchase, they have already sold 2!

The manufacturer also makes some much more reasonably priced ones which retail at around the £5,000 mark

It kind of makes the argument that Apple computers are overpriced sound a little irrelevant!

My boss just purchased a racing car for about 2 million bucks. And in small tiny Singapore, there is no place for him to race that damn thing. Yet he still purchased it. So....

I would never pay retail even for this overpriced laptop.
