I have noticed of late (I can't say exactly how long this has been happening for) that, when I come to the forums and there are several new threads/posts, and I read one (or reply which is what has just happened), that if I'm more than about 30 seconds on it, all the others which were marked as new, appear as though they're not.
Is this happening with anyone else?

OK, I've narrowed the issue down to when I reply to a thread only. So, if there are say 2 threads with new posts, and I reply to one, both become marked as read.
This is using Safari on a Mac. I should check what happens with other browsers I guess. BTW Rob, you still haven't looked at why the live chat isn't showing for Mac/Safari users. It shows up on other sites who use the same chat software, so it's something in your settings for here. It also shows up here with other browsers on the Mac, just not Safari.

Maybe its a time stamp problem... if you reply to the thread posted latest - the forum think you must have seen the other and therefore marks it as read... thats speculation though - I'll leave it a few days to build up some posts and test it myself

Yeah, I've had this problem too, not of late however. I figured it was just me being too slow reading some threads!
Whilst on the subject of forum fixes, it'd be great if it could be sorted so www.dotable.com / forums.dotable.com and dotable.com all mirrored each other. I always visit the subdomain 'forums', but when clicking an announcement email or visiting the products, etc, all posts appear as new. Just a minor thing but a bit of a pain! |

forums.dotable.com is the old domain for them (before everything was put into the forums). Perhaps it would be better if a permanent redirect was put on it to redirect to dotable.com

Actually this problem with new post markings isn't just if I reply to a post. When I arrived for this visit, there was a new reply to a thread in the lounge showing on the home page. I got distract for no more than 20 seconds by my email and when I clicked on the link to the lounge forum there were no threads marked with new posts. There was a reply however to the thread "Domain suggestion help".
Something's not quite right. Rob, you're being very quiet about it, any ideas?

I'm reading Josh. I can't replicate the issue on my PCs though, so I'm a tad stumped.

As Josh says, I have noticed "something not quite right" for some time now. Threads that are marked "unread" when you first view the page suddenly becomes "read" after you have taken some action, maybe read another thread from that same page or moved away to another page and then rturned or something like that. I also see some auto-refresh going on in the status bar, not sure if that has any effect. But I haven't found an exact pattern when this occurs.
So what I have been doing is opening all "unread" threads as soon as I visit the forum and then read them so I don't miss out on any threads that seem to become "read" on its own. |
