Default Domain registrar advice

Hi all,

Quick q for the collective brain of Dotable... After having a finger in many 'registrars' pies, I've decided to go for just one system (PlanetDomain) so I've been busy transferring my domains.

One, a .us domain, is currently with Enom. I've requested transfer, entered the correct EPP transfer key, received confirmation from incoming registrar but I'm not receiving the confirmation from Enom to approve transfer so it's gonna fail. I've checked and all contact details are correct (and all are pointing to me!)

Never encountered this - with domain fast approaching expiry time, not sure what else I can do? Any ideas?

Cheers,
andy

Could it be the domain is not unlocked? Maybe search for transfer process for .us domain, in case there is a slightly different set of steps to be taken. Hopefully someone who has done a .us transfer could give you more help.

I've transferred it once before from the previous registrar to eNom and I don't really remember any special steps - it's definitely unlocked; the receiving registrar is normally pretty on the ball if the domain is not unlocked.

I'll maybe just raise a ticket with eNom. Worst case scenario is I can always renew with them for another year (I hope!)

I recently did a transfer from eNom and this is the standard text of the confirmation message from the eNom reseller:
Code:
STANDARDIZED FORM OF AUTHORIZATION
DOMAIN NAME TRANSFER - Confirmation of Registrar Transfer Request

Attention: David Goodwin
Re: Transfer of ~~~~~~~.net

~~~~~~~~~~ received notification on Sep 26 2007 12:00AM (EST)
that you have requested a transfer to another domain name registrar.
If you want to proceed with this transfer, you do not need to respond
to this message.  If you wish to either cancel or expedite the transfer,
please respond to this message before Oct  1 2007 12:00AM (EST) by
using the following URL:
http://~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If we do not hear from you by Oct  1 2007 12:00AM (EST), the transfer
will proceed.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact
~~~~~~~~~@~~~~.~~~.
So it looks like if the email got lost, the transfer will still take place without any other action on your part. Unfortunately, during this transition period, eNom does not appear to indicate the pending transfer status in their domain list so you cannot confirm it. Although maybe there is a whois flag that shows the status? There is certainly a whois flag to indicate REGISTRAR_LOCK that you could check.

For those using them, what are Planet Domain like?

I've been toying with leaving eNom for several years now and having looked at Planet Domain's website just now, see that they support transfers of all the extensions I have (com,net,org,co.uk and eu).

Certainly cheaper for co.uk / org.uk domains which is what attracted me. Control panel is functional but not at all pretty to look at! Certain functions could be clearer, but it's possible to do everything I need through the reseller control panel.

I should point out that I don't utilise the sub-domain they set-up for me (to sell domains to general public) and I generally don't allow clients to modify their own domains which keeps things simple!

I think there are quite a few Planet Domain customers here (since they are Aussie based), so perhaps wait and see some other opinions

Thanks for the tip regarding the domain Dave - guess I'll just need to wait a couple more days to see if the transfer proceeds. In the meantime, I'll double check the lock flag.

Thanks.

I just opened an account but now see they don't offer .eu transfers - poop!

Maybe drop them a ticket - it's perhaps something they could offer (since they do offer .eu registrations). Worth a shot, they seem like pretty helpful folks!

Curiously, eNom doesn't either. I wonder if it is something the .eu NIC doesn't allow?
