Yeah, that would be the goal Unfortunately, to do this right, I need to build a new tower on top of a 3700ft mountain with no access other than helicopter. There is no power so a solar/battery system needs to be installed as well. So there is going to be some major investment to start this business.

I have Road Runner high speed cable. 7.0 Mbps downstream and up to 512 Kbps upstream. Unlimited dial-up roaming access. $44.95/month however it's actually cheaper because of a combo package which includes DTV-Digital Television. Total out the door is $101.87 per month.

:::.. testmy.net test results ..:::
Download Connection is:: 6563 Kbps about 6.56 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB)
Download Speed is:: 801 kB/s
Upload Connection is:: 483 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB)
Upload Speed is:: 59 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net (Main)
Test Time:: 2007/08/06 - 9:28am

I live in the AT&T region of the US where the former BellSouth company served. Last month, I discovered a 10USD/month deal that was part of the buyout deal: $10 for DSL, 768kbps down, 256k up. I was ready to bite, but contacted my current cable company, and they matched the deal. I'll learn to live with the throughput reduction from 3Gbps for the $39 difference in the monthly rate.

Dave, here's a link from a wireless operator in my former town in Tennessee. I didn't see their equipment details online, but they are a pretty small outfit. Drop them a line at techsupport@dotspot.net ... once they determine you are not a competitor, they'd likely share their technical model.

PS - I don't think the cable company *really* has the technology (or application know-how) to squeeze my pipeline ... all my testing still shows me at 3Gbps.

Hi BGB,

Thanks for the link. I will inquire about their experiences. I have done that with a couple other WISP operations but this one looks like they might be using the same equipment I have been considering.

Thanks again

Guess who's getting ADSL2 here soon? Yep, 15-20Mbps soon.
