Default SpamAssassin

Hi Guys,

Okay we've been debating this a lot lately - the issue is, we can't offer SpamAssassin and MailFiltering.com, and the vast majority of our clients want to be protected by the better option. So here's the compromise we have introduced.

Any clients who wish to use SpamAssassin and want nothing to do with MailFiltering.com should put in a ticket - at that time we will move you to a new server which will not be protected by the MailFiltering.com mailfilter.

Any clients who wish to remain behind the mailfilter, we will be introducing a rule to the servers soon that will force them to *only* accept mail that was first marked as clean by the firewall. This will rid of all the cached MX issues.

This will also allow us to know exactly what mail is coming in, and tweak the spam protection to the full extent.

Right now - SpamAssassin is on both servers, but it's causing a lot of issues with emails being double scanned, and in general, it's badly effecting the performance of the MailFiltering.com mailfilter.

If you wish to not use the mailfilter, please open a ticket and we will move you to a server which will never be behind anything but a optimized spamassassin setup.

Hi Nick,

I have a site with dedicated IP and certificate. How will this be impacted by such a move? Will this all be transferred?
Will my name server info stay the same?

Thanks

Does this mean mail marked as spam will be dropped at server and not delivered? Or am I missing something?

My only concern is I've had a few false-positives and I'd rather manually sort these rather than risk missing an important mail...

Are you for real? So *everything* marked as spam will be deleted? The customer will not even have an opportunity to decide whether it's spam or not?

Will this have any effect on email delivered to a local address using PHP's mail function? As I don't believe this would be sent off server first?

Nick worded this incorrectly. What should have been said was that all mail must go through the mailfilter first. It will still be delivered with the [spam] subject when it is spam. (However RBL's etc will still be in effect to block at smtp time).

Adam
PHP Mail delivered locally wouldn't be affected by this.

Sorry guys. I misworded this. We will be doing the same [spam] header, so cPanel's spambox will still allow you filter and see the quarantine. Basically what it does is create an IMAP folder for you so you can just connect to the spambox via IMAP.

Sorry Nick but I think at this point my preferred option is to move to another (non-Dotable) server. Please define "soon" so I know how long I have to make the move.

That's unfortunate, we don't have a time frame for this, and regret to see you go.
