Question Question on Digital Delivery Services

Hi Everyone -

I have a client that sells drum loops in various audio formats. Currently they sell them via DVD; so a customer orders the DVD, and it is sent to them via US Postal Service.

He is currently looking into digital delivery services, both software and appliance (software and hardware) solutions. But I need some opinions from those here that might be doing the same/similar thing or have experience doing this.

The main concern is, of course, bandwidth, and also being able to track the delivery of the drum loops package that assures customers receive exactly what they pay for. Any experience and advice appreciated.

Thank you -

Scott

A few questions

What file formats
Which payment gateways

I can think of a few methods but none are free

I would set up an oscommerce or zen cart shop which can do what your after but not track the bandwidth as easily.
When they have paid for ther track/loop or whatever they get directed to a download link where they can download it, I guess you can track the bandwidth in his cpanel stats programmes.
As long as they arent hours long then I would think this would be fine.
HTH
If you need any help setting either of these up just give me a shout.

Thumbs up

@sshocker:

Apple Loops, REX2, and WAV format.
Currently they have a Yahoo Store, but are looking to change the shopping cart and gateway completely.
It's OK if it's not free. We'd like the best-for-the-money solution.

In the mean-time, I've found this shopping cart and system. It supports a digital delivery-type of system:

@Reesy - Thanks - I'll look into those two shopping carts now.

Regards,

Scott

No probs.
Id definately go with osc/zen above that solution.
That looks veerrrrrrrrrry similar to oscommerce anyway but written in .asp which if I remember rightly only works on windows hosts?
Please PM me if you want to see a good example of both a heavily customised oscommerce store and zen store.
Anything is possible with these!

Good luck!

I overlooked the fact that the shopping cart I list above was an ASP solution - something I won't be running on my Neptune server anytime soon

So after looking in the Zen and OSCOmmerce carts, it seems that both can do digital downloads, and both seem to be pretty good solutions.

Is there a crowd favorite or recommended choice for what I'm trying to do with anyone that has maybe done a digital download web site?

Here is the current site: drumsondemand.com (hosted still at my old reseller plan - so no jokes about that yet!)

Thanks!

Scott

Using zencart, re ease of template design,
oscommerce may have more mods but not easy to
skin

PM me details when you can, I always point people your way.
