Default AU or US based accounts - which one is best for me?

Dotable is proud to offer both AU (Australian) and US based hosting accounts.

The AU based accounts are in Sydney's Global Switch facility, and the US based accounts are in Los Angeles.

How do I know which location is best for me?

AU based servers are usually best suited to Dotable clients from within Australia. Your site will load faster from an AU based server as compared to a US based server, when accessed from within Australia.

But not all of Dotable Australian clients will benefit from an AU based account. You need to think where the bulk of your website visitors will be accessing your site, from within Australia or from outside of Australia, when determining if you will benefit from an AU based account.

If the bulk of your site visitors comes from outside Australia, then an US based account would be better suited for you. If the bulk of your site visitors come from within Australia, then an AU based account would be best for you.

Why do the AU based accounts cost more than the US based accounts?

Yes, this is the harsh reality of AU based hosting, when compared to US based hosting. The costs of colocation and bandwidth in the US is much less than here in Australia. The reasoning for this is complex, but simply put it's down to market forces. There is a LOT more supply and competition for colocation/bandwidth in America, than here in Australia, hence when there's a large supply, then competition is greater and pricing pressures are greater. If there's not so much supply, and not so much competition, then market forces dictate that pricing is higher.

Summing up -

The Dotable AU based accounts are best suited to those Dotable clients who derive the bulk of their website traffic from within Australia, so faster site loading times is advantagous, and are willing to pay a premium for this as compared to a Dotable US based account.
