Uptime expectations too high
I think the uptime expectations are a little too high for some people here who have clients using this as a hosting service.
A 1 hour outage in a month equates to 99.98% uptime (which was the approximate length of this one).
With respect, a $10-$50 per month shared hosting is very competitive, but don't expect there to be massive redundancy throughout the hosting environment (hard drives, power supplies, network connections, clustered servers, clustered database servers, offsite redundancy, etc. etc.) unless you're paying a few orders of magnitude more per month.
If you're in Australia and your internet connection goes down they you're up for a one DAY response time by Telstra (that's for them to take an initial look at the issue).
Even a business grade DSL service from someone like PowerTel has a 24 hour mean-time-to-repair and availability target of 99.9% per month. That's 35 hours per month downtime.
I was very happy with the response and resolution of this issue by Dotable.
Cheers,
Richard.
